Every subsystem, purposefully designed

  1. Dual modulated diode lasers — 2 × 50 W

    Two synchronised sources give even excitation across the specimen, which is what makes the phase image trustworthy.

  2. Excitation wavelengths — 808–1064 nm

    Near-infrared excitation absorbed efficiently by metal surfaces.

  3. Specimen capacity — 300 × 300 mm

    Full component inspection area.

  4. Thermography camera — Infrared

    Captures the surface thermal response during excitation, synchronised to the modulation.

  5. Phase analysis — Amplitude & phase

    Phase images computed to suppress emissivity and heating non-uniformity.

  6. Fully non-contact — No coupling

    No couplant, no contact, no surface preparation — unlike ultrasonic inspection.

  7. Automated sequence — Recipe-driven

    Inspection parameters stored per component type and recalled by name.

Principle of operation

Why modulated heating finds what steady heating hides

Apply a periodically modulated heat source to a component and a thermal wave propagates into the material. Where the wave meets a defect — a void, a crack, a lack of fusion — it reflects, and the surface temperature at that point acquires a phase shift relative to the excitation. Recovering that phase, rather than raw temperature, suppresses the effects of uneven surface emissivity and uneven heating, which is precisely what defeats simple thermography. The result is a phase image in which a sub-surface flaw appears as contrast that steady-state imaging would miss.

SPPL software, written and supported by us

Our Windows application handles live view, regions of interest, minimum, maximum and average values, trend plots and alarms, with export to Excel and MP4 and retention of raw data for re-analysis later. An SDK is available where the system is being embedded into your own application.

Because the software is ours, a change you need is a change we can make — you are not waiting on an overseas vendor's release cycle.
